Adventurer 5

Overview of class

Welcome to Adventurer 5. We are an upper key stage 2 class. Our teacher is Julia. Our Teaching assistant is Lauren. Our ISAs are Sam and Zoe.

Autumn 2:

I

This half term Adventurer 5 have been very busy, working hard in all their lessons and enjoying some trips out.
In English we have looked at writing letters and stories about letters including 'Dear Dinosaur' and 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'. We wrote letters to ourselves and posted them and learnt how to write our addresses. We have continued to work hard on our phonics, with some groups working on set 1 sounds, some on set 2,3 or comprehension work.
In maths we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes, naming, sorting and exploring their properties. We learnt about patterns and how to make repeat patterns and spot mistakes. We have been learning about addition and subtraction using concrete objects, pictures and written number bonds.
In science we have learnt about forces, exploring air and water resistance with experiments with fans. We looked at friction and how is slows moving objects down with some mini experiments and pulling each other over different materials...it was lots of fun! We enjoyed making parachutes and learning how the moons gravity makes tides.
In topic our theme was 'Local area and maps' so we investagted digital and real maps of Cannock and the surrounding areas. We learnt about map keys, compass points and how to follow directions. We enjoyed learning about Cannock mining history with lots of role play.
Our trips for forest school to Cannock Chase and the Snow Dome were lots of fun!

Reminders:

  • Forest schools are on a Friday – please bring in a named change of clothes and clothing for wet weather/mucky exploration.
  • Please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes in their bags.
  • PE is on Wednesdays and Fridays -  please send PE kits in to stay in school for the half term.
  • Library books will be changed every week, please ensure they are in your child’s bag.
  • Please send reading books and reading records back in every day. We try to ensure reading books are changed once a week.
  • Please label ALL of your child’s belongings.
