Adventurer 5
Overview of class
Welcome to Adventurer 5. We are an upper key stage 2 class. Our teacher is Julia. Our Teaching assistant is Lauren. Our ISAs are Sam and Zoe.
Autumn 1:
In English, we have been reading the stories: ‘The suitcase’, ‘Rabbityness’, and ‘The visitor’. We have recalled the stories in various ways; including the use of roleplay to re enact the story. We have been learning to write lists; describe characters; and use colourful semantics to continue and predict stories. We all made puppets for a shadow theatre and enjoyed using our imaginations to tell a story. We have been developing our fine motor skills in lots of fun and varied ways and practising our pencil control.
This term, In Maths, we have focused on: ordering and counting numbers; making tens from larger numbers; place value and partitioning numbers. We have practiced these skills in various ways. Using the laptop, we have ordered and written numbers.
Our Topic ‘Iron Age’ - is very exciting. We have researched and created iron Age patterns. We have practiced our threading skills to create some wonderful sashes. We whittled sticks to create bows and paper mache to make shields all ready for our tribal battle! We learnt about the features of an iron age roundhouse and how they were made. We made our own roundhouses and furniture.
In music, Karolina has been helping us prepare for our Harvest festival. We have learnt lots of songs and actions to perform. We have all been listening to orchestral music and taken turns in conducting the class.
In science, we looked at electricity. We created our own circuits and looked and what would happen when those circuits became broken. We focused on battery safety and the correct way to handle them. We identified various types of energy and what uses that energy.
On Fridays, we are enjoying Forest school with Stacey. We have been making iron age rope and dyes to paint; we made flour using seeds and stones to grind them. We made bread and cooked it on the fire. We took a trip to Marquis Drive and collected lots of natural materials for Stacey. We have also loved exploring our outdoor classroom areas.
Autumn 2:
Next half term we will be looking at our local area and its history and about forces in science.
