Ash

Overview of class:

Welcome to Ash class. We are an ASC class.  Sarah is our teacher. Jodie is the TA. Yasmin, Sharon H, Sharon G and Siobhan are the ISAs.

We have a very structured approach to our learning in Ash Class. This allows us to have consistency, build our confidence and develop our independence within a safe and predictable setting. We have OT sessions twice daily to help to develop our fine and gross motor skills as well as supporting our behaviour, wellbeing helping us to regulate our behaviour and prepare us for learning. We also have individual sessions throughout the day to meet our individual needs.

Topic

Our topic this term is All About Me, Families and Friends. The children have had lots of fun learning through play, taking part in activities such as making faces with different materials, colouring pictures, playing with Happyland and Mr Potato Head, and identifying members of their families.

English

In English, we have enjoyed sharing sensory and interactive stories, including Guess How Much I Love You, Sticks and Stones, and Posy and Pip. The children have explored themes of family and friendship through character matching, simple sentence building, discussion, and hands-on story activities.

Alongside this, the children have taken part in regular fine motor sessions to strengthen their hand muscles and support their functional skills. These have included mark making, writing, playdough activities, cutting, stitching, and pencil control tasks. Each activity is adapted to meet the children’s individual needs, helping them develop coordination, independence, and readiness for writing.

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about day and night, daily routines, and telling the time. The children have enjoyed lots of hands-on activities, including exploring clocks, sequencing parts of the day, and talking about what happens at different times. Learning has been fun, practical, and linked to everyday experiences.

PE

In PE this term, the children have taken part in a range of exciting and engaging activities. They have enjoyed trampolining and Boogie Bounce sessions, following a fun, structured routine that includes songs, bubbles, steps, trampettes, the parachute, and sensory resources. These sessions help the children stay active, build their confidence, and develop coordination. Each PE lesson ends with calming sensory time, giving the children a chance to relax and regulate after their physical activity.

Forest school

we have really enjoyed our outdoor activities while learning outside the classroom this term. We have been exploring through sand play, water play, and lots of messy play.  These outdoor experiences have helped them develop their creativity, curiosity, and confidence while having fun in a hands-on learning environment.
