Beech
Class overview
Welcome to Beech Class. We are an upper KS2 class on the semi formal pathway. Our teacher is Vicki, our TA is Julie and our ISA is Dawn.
We learn through practical application and have many opportunities to practice with small group work and learning outside the classroom.
This half term our focus in topic is World War 2; learning about the countries that fought in the war, what life was like during the Blitz – with air raids and rationing.
The focus in science is ‘Light and Sound’; exploring sound and light sources and sound waves. Our exploration of sound and light links well with our topic of World War 2.
In English we are looking at books that link with people having to leave their homes, feeling scared or worried and war including ‘The Suitcase’. We are developing our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills describing characters, ordering the story, reflecting on our own feelings and making responses to the stories.
Our math’s area of learning is ‘Place Value’ for this half term and we are developing our number skills focusing on ones, tens and hundreds and some children have extended this to thousands.
