Explorer 5

Welcome to Explorer 5. We are a Key Stage 1 class. Vicky is our class teacher. Julie is the TA. Lauren and Emma are the ISAs. We welcome Lauren to our class team.

Summer 1:

In English this half term we have explored the books 'Lulu's lunch box and the Hungry Caterpillar'.

We have enjoyed using our senses to explore the foods we heard about in the stories. The children have been creative with paint, creating their own caterpillars and butterflies.

The Hungry Caterpillar has supported our focus of number in Maths. We have focused on numbers 1-5, both ordering numbers and finding representation of the numbers. We have enjoyed listening to number nursery rhymes (5 little speckled frogs, 5 currently buns) and used objects to support our learning.

The theme for our topic was “Pirates”. The children have enjoyed lots of sensory play with water and sand and have practiced their gross motor skills walking the plank.

In phonics we have continued to focus on set 1 sounds (letters m,a,s,d,t) and working towards individual targets. The children have continued to work on their communication skills through the use of PECS, ALD boards, communication books and devices.

Learning Outside the Classroom sessions with Pam, continued on Monday’s. We have investigated the outdoors through play, using water play, sand, soil, paint and lots of messy play. Please continue to ensure their waterproofs, wellies and change are clothes are in school on Monday.
